NHS hospitals are using mobile tracking to ensure real-time visibility of ambulances out on call. The result is smarter deployment of vehicles, more accurate co-ordination and the ability to calculate patients ETA to the minute.
Medi Logistics, which provides Royal Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset NHS Ambulance Trusts with medical transport solutions, has partnered with Westwood Automotive to implement Eagle Eyes GPRS units. This will enable the centralised tracking, management control and an automated audit trail of the fleet of ambulances. Ambulance controllers will be able to see vehicle locations via their own desktop Web browser.
The tracking system is particularly important for organ transplant co-ordinators who will be able to co-ordinate the start of operations with pinpoint accuracy, thus ensuring the optimum use of available time and resources.
